Puppy Abandoned On A Baseball Field During a Storm Silently Waits For Someone To Help Him

Left alone in a storm. Covered in hundreds of ticks. Waiting on an onion sack in the middle of a flooded baseball field. This is Slugger — and his story could have ended very differently.

Last summer, as powerful storms rolled through South Texas, Dallas Dog Rescue Rehab Reform (Dallas DogRRR) received an urgent call about a stray puppy spotted on a baseball field. The field was flooding, and despite the heavy rain and rising water, the little dog refused to move.

Animal Control rushed to the scene. At first, rescuers couldn’t find him in the downpour. Then one rescuer spotted what looked like an old onion sack just outside the fence line.

And there he was. Soaked. Cold. Frozen in fear. He wasn’t barking. He wasn’t running. He simply sat there waiting — as if he believed someone was coming back for him.

Rescuers scooped him up and brought him to safety, where the heartbreaking reality became clear. Slugger was starving, weak, and covered in hundreds of ticks attached to his ears, belly, neck, and legs. His gums were pale, and he desperately needed medical care.

But even after everything he’d endured, Slugger remained incredibly sweet.

“His temperament was super sweet, so he had definitely been handled by humans before,” rescue staff said.

The puppy who had been abandoned never gave up — and neither did the people who saved him.

As he received treatment and began to heal, Slugger’s true personality emerged. He regained his strength, discovered a love for toys, and delighted his foster mom by piling them onto his bed.

“We named him Slugger because he fought to survive even after being abandoned,” Dallas DogRRR wrote.

Then came the ending every rescue dog deserves. A loving couple fell in love with Slugger and made him part of their family forever.

Today, Slugger never has to wonder if someone is coming back for him. He is cherished, pampered, and surrounded by love — with all the toys his heart desires.
