Blind Dog Fetches The Newspaper Every Morning, Making Sure His Family Has It Before Breakfast

Every morning, before breakfast, Mason has an important job to do.

For years, the devoted Golden Retriever would wake up early, head down the front steps, trot along the path, carefully navigate around the family cat, and retrieve the morning newspaper for his humans.

Then everything changed.

After developing painful glaucoma, Mason had to have both of his eyes removed. His family worried about how such a major change would affect his daily life and whether he’d still be able to enjoy the routines he loved so much.

But Mason had other plans.

Not long after recovering, he decided he wasn’t ready to give up his favorite morning duty. Using his incredible sense of smell, he still makes his way down the driveway each day to find the newspaper and proudly carry it back home.

His family says the paper usually lands in about the same spot, making it easier for him to sniff out. And when he finds it? “He gets so happy and so proud.”

Mason may have lost his sight, but he never lost his spirit.
