Group of College Students Skips Class To Rescue Hurt Golden Retriever
A group of college students was on their way to class when one look from a wounded dog changed everything. Lying just outside campus was a Golden Retriever with a massive wound on her neck. She was covered in flies, and people were too afraid to go near her.
But when the injured dog looked up at the students, it was as if she was silently asking for help. Instead of walking away, they skipped class.
They rushed the dog—later named Goldey—to a veterinarian. Her injuries were so severe that the vet wasn’t sure she would survive. The students refused to accept that.
One of them, Arjun, reached out to a friend experienced in fostering sick dogs, who took Goldey in and cared for her until she was strong enough to begin treatment for her infection.
For days, the friends continued putting Goldey’s recovery first. They skipped classes to drive her to veterinary appointments, stayed by her side during IV treatments, helped pay for her medical care, and patiently earned the trust of a dog who had clearly been through so much. Kind strangers online also stepped in to help cover the cost of her treatment.
Little by little, Goldey healed. When she was finally healthy again, there was no question where she belonged.
Arjun decided to adopt her, with his friends helping him train his new companion. “I became an accidental pet parent,” he said.
Today, Goldey goes everywhere with him, enjoying the happy, loved life she almost never had.
