K9 Tracks Down Missing Girl in 12 Minutes On His First Ever Search Mission
Meet Rex — a true hero with a heart just as big as his talent. On his very first real tracking mission, Rex did something incredible.
A 7-year-old girl had been missing for over two hours after becoming separated from her mom. Time was critical. But Rex stayed focused. Given her scent from a pair of shoes, he got to work — and just 12 minutes later, he found her.

But Rex didn’t stop there. The moment the little girl was found, this amazing dog gently shifted from search mode to comfort mode — staying by her side, offering the quiet reassurance she needed after such a frightening experience. Even more remarkable, the search mission was his first ever.
“He’s a triple threat,” said his handler, Deputy John Gray with the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office. Rex is not only trained as a skilled tracker, but he’s also a trained therapy dog and an explosive detection dog, making him a unique K9 officer.
From finding the missing to comforting the scared, Rex didn’t just complete a mission that day — he made a difference that girl and her family will never forget.
