Shih Tzu Rescued from Frozen River after Getting Stuck

A tiny Shih Tzu got into trouble after he broke away from his owner to chase geese on the frozen Seneca River in Lysander, New York. The Plainville Fire Department responded to the call to save the dog who had gotten stranded in the middle of the river.

The dog had run onto the ice with his leash trailing after him and the leash got ensnared in the ice.

The fire department shared photos of the rescue on Facebook on Thursday, January 20, 2022, which reveals the firefighters donned ice rescue suits supplied by the Jordan Fire Department to crawl onto the ice to reach the stranded dog.

It took a bit of time, but thankfully the little dog didn’t move from his spot on an icy block.

When the firefighters finally reached the dog, they freed his leash and slowly led the dog back to shore.
