Alex Pachecho teamed up with Forgotten Dogs of the 5th Ward in Houston, Texas to feed hungry stray dogs in the area. While out feeding them, he encountered one dog that made a huge impression on him. The little Chihuhua literally crawls into his arms.
While rescuing the dog he named “Mr. Cookie”, Alex explains that sadly there aren’t enough facilities to take every dog off the street. That’s why his organization works so hard to work on spay and neutering programs.
What I thought was fascinating is that Alex mentioned that 600Million.org is developing a dog treat that will help sterilize a dog without the need of an operation. The cookies would be a permanent birth control and would target female dogs. Such a solution would be revolutionary in dealing with the terrible stray dog population in communities around the world!
Until then, dogs like Mr. Cookie have to depend on luck and kindness of rescue groups like Forgotten Dogs!
