Rescued Dog Scared to Go Through Doors Wants His Hand Held

A homeless dog rescued off the streets of Houston was terrified to come into the house. But thanks to his foster mom’s patience Boomer learned to become a house dog.

Samantha Zimmer and her boyfriend (now husband) with Street Life To The Sweet Life wanted to rescue as many dogs as they could before Houston had a cold snap. Boomer was among four dogs at a parking lot. They set a trap and didn’t manage to catch him the first day but friends got him the next.

Samantha decided to foster Boomer and the one thing she noticed right away was that he didn’t want to cross the door threshold to come inside. She says it was like there was a forcefield at the door and that he had been conditioned not to come in. One thing that Samantha used to her advantage was that when Boomer wants to be comforted he holds out his paw to be held. In a video she filmed of Boomer, the dog can be seen raising his paw out to Samantha at the threshold. How sweet is that?

Despite her gentle coaxing and telling him “you’re a house dog” it took some work and time but eventually Boomer trusted her enough to come inside! A month later, Boomer was doing great and getting snuggles on the couch. Samantha said that he is overall a “pretty lazy dog” and would be put up for adoption after he had his full course of heartworm medication.

Eventually, Boomer was ready to be adopted and with Lola’s Lucky Day in Wisconsin‘s help it appears he found a home! Although we were not able to officially verify Boomer was adopted, he’s not on the rescue’s Available for Adoption so we think the sweet lovable fellow has settled in with a loving family.
