Meet Momma Dog. Hollow Creek Farm Equine and Canine Rescue in South Carolina received an email in late August about a stray dog who was living under an abandoned home. The dog was very clever at evading her rescuers but finally, after weeks of attempts, Hollow Creek Farm managed to catch her. By that point Momma Dog was very pregnant. Her rescue literally came in the nick of time because if she had not been caught she and her puppies would have all died.
Hollow Creek Farm explains, “Three days later she had her puppies. And thank goodness they were because the first puppy got stuck and needed help. She also wasn’t producing the amount of milk she needed to feed all the pups because she was malnourished and weak.” Not only that but Momma Dog only has seven nipples and eight mouths to feed.
Thankfully, her rescuers are helping her regain her strength and assisting with feeding her puppies. They say that her temperament is “very sweet.” She’ll have some healing to do because one of her feet is “deformed and broken.” They suspect she was hit by a car and it caused nerve damage. Unfortunately, it’s an old injury so she will need to have her leg amputated but only when she’s recovered her strength and her puppies have been weaned.
