Dog Spends 301 Days In Shelter, Reunites With Family Who Thought She was Dead

A Florida family has reunited with their dog after 301 days because of a photo posted on social media. The pitbull mix named Juicee had been brought to Austin Animal Center, Texas animal shelter as a stray, back in June 2022. Recently a friend spotted her photo after it was posted to the center’s Spanish language Facebook page (named “Mascotas de Austin”).

The family was stunned Juicee was alive but they promptly jumped into their car and drove over 20 hours to reunite with their dog. Austin Animal Center (AAC) commented on their Facebook post that “The owners told us their neighbor had told them she was dead.” AAC said they do not know more and continued, “Beyond that would only be speculation.”

In the video that AAC shared, Juicee can be seen leaving her kennel for the last time. She’s eagerly tugging on her leash when she sees her family. She’s so excited she jumps up on them.

During her long stay at the shelter, Juicee was loved by volunteers. Upon hearing the news, Kelli Patrick wrote on Facebook, “As a volunteer, Juicee was one of my favorites! This is just the best news…so happy for her and her family!”

“Juicee was unsure of strangers while she was in the shelter, but the second she saw her family, she was all tail wags and smiles,” Austin Animal Center public health educator Luis Herrera said to FOX 7 Austin.

The shelter is delighted for Juicee and her family and said that the miraculous reunion emphasizes the importance of having social media for Spanish speakers and their pets.
