Injured Homeless Dog Climbs Into Vet’s Lap For A Hug
When a “neighborhood dog” didn’t show up for his daily breakfast on a freezing cold day in St. Louis, the neighbors who had been looking after him grew concerned and began to worry and went out looking for him. “They found him, beat the hell up by another dog, and hiding in an abandoned house,” Stray Rescue of St. Louis wrote on Facebook. “They rushed to get him blankets and called for help.”

Donna Lochmann, Stray Rescue’s Chief Lifesaving Officer, and her team arrived to find the Pit Bull they named Peso covered in bite wounds. Donna gently coaxed him out of the house and into her car to get him the medical attention he desperately needed.
“When we got to Stray Rescue, he didn’t want to get out of the Jeep,” Stray Rescue of St. Louis said. “When we finally got him inside, he met Dr. Oliver. He gingerly climbed in her lap, kissed her face, plopped down, and just hugged her.”

“She rocked him and patted him. He is suchhhhh a baby. That’s all he wants. What a doll face angel baby boy,” they continued.

An examination revealed Peso was covered with bite marks. His front legs were swollen and infected and he needed his wounds cleaned and to be put on pain medications and antibiotics.

With Peso on the mend, Stray Rescue reached out to the kind people who had been looking after him.. They wrote, “We have spoken with his neighborhood friends since his rescue. They are so happy to hear he’s doing great! He will forever be grateful to his angels, and so are we.”
After a week of healing, the rescue announced that Peso is ready for foster care or, even better, his forever home. Stray Rescue of St. Louis says the staff have fallen in love with him and that even though he’s a big boy he’s “just a big baby.”

“He will always love those kind people in the neighborhood that fed him, but he’s ready to be a family member,” the rescue organization wrote. “He wants to live INSIDE, be your little spoon at bedtime, be your movie watching buddy, your taste tester, and your co-pilot for adventures. He’s ready if you are…”
