Stray Mama Dog Hid Her Puppies So Well It Took Weeks To Find Them

Over several weeks, Stray Rescue of St. Louis received began receiving many calls about a mama dog wandering in a neighborhood. People in the neighborhood knew the dog had recently given birth but no one knew where her puppies were. But Stray Rescue of St. Louis says during the weeks they searched for her pups, “So many neighbors put food out for her.” They added, “We KNOW she and her puppies are alive today because so many kind people kept her fed and called with sightings.”

After following the mama dog (who they named Muffin) for several weeks with no puppy sightings, Donna saw her on the porch of an abandoned home so went in to check. There, on the top of the stairs, was Muffin and her babies! The pups were hungrily suckling and Donna guessed the puppies were around 6 weeks old.

“She gave a warning growl, but never lunged,” the rescue writes of Muffin. Eventually Muffin let Donna leash her and take her out of the home. Her 7 “mini muffins” followed shortly after. After getting the family back to the shelter, they began taking care of the family. They gave Muffin a bath because she turned out to be one of the “stinkiest dogs” they had ever rescued. She also turned out to be one of the sweetest.

“She is the kindest, gentlest mama,” they write. “Her babies are going to foster now, they are too old to keep nursing. Mama Muffin is ready to go to foster now too, where she can get endless massages and spoiling. She did it. The stressful living nightmare is over. What a strong, brave, selfless girl. We are in awe of her strength.”

“All donations made will go toward the Muffin family and will help us move forward to the Championship round, right now we are in the Final Four of #MarchMuttness! Strayrescue.org/MM23
