Senior Dog Covers Herself In Sheet Trying To Escape Harsh Reality of Shelter
A six-year-old shelter dog has taken to covering herself with her bedding—an apparent attempt to escape the harsh reality of life in a kennel. Linda, who has been at Miami Dade Animal Services since December 2024, has spent over five months waiting for a home. Now, Pawssion 4 Dogs is hoping that bringing attention to her story will help her finally get adopted.
Shortly after they placed fresh bedding in her kennel, they found Linda curled up under the covers.
They shared Linda’s story on their Facebook reel:
“She’s a senior dog—and every day here takes a toll.
When we recently placed some bedding in her kennel, we found her completely covered, sleeping beneath the sheet. And it broke our hearts. It was as if she were trying to escape the harsh reality around her—cold, lonely, stressed, with no outings, no comfort, no peace.
Let us be clear: the shelter is not a home. It’s not a boarding facility. It’s not a vet hospital.”
They noted that Linda is slowly fading away from her prolonged stay and explained that her behavior is like other dogs who spend too long at the shelter.
“After just a short time, dogs begin to decline. Physically. Emotionally. Behaviorally. You can see it in their eyes—just like we see it in Linda’s. She is fading, quietly, in a place that was never meant to hold her for this long.
We invite you to come meet them—come see Linda and the many others like her who are simply waiting for someone to notice them. To save them. There are more than 700 dogs in the shelter.
Linda is ready for a warm bed, a quiet home, and a heart to love her. Please, help us get her out of here.”
Pawssion 4 Dogs also shared video clips of Linda playing with staff and in a kiddie pool with a big smile on her face, showing she still has hope in her heart.
