Scruffy Pups Rescued After 3 Days Lying in Houston Driveway

Streethearts Project regularly rescues stray dogs in Texas. It’s an endless task, with more abandoned and stray dogs showing up in Houston every single day. Recently, Kristin Erwin with Streethearts was alerted to two small dogs who had been lying on someone’s driveway for three days.

“Three days ago these little, scruffy girls showed up in someone’s driveway,” Kristin wrote. “We don’t know where they came from, but we do know this isn’t the first or last time dogs are dropped off here.”

When she arrived, the two dogs were filthy and neglected. Every time they shook, a cloud of dirt rose around them.

“I wasn’t sure if they were going to play hard to get or come willingly, but thankfully they were pretty sweet! Once I got them in my car, I saw how bad their skin was and how dirty they were. Every time they shook, a dust cloud formed.”

Fortunately, Kristin had already networked for their placement, and the two are now safe with Lola’s Lucky Day rescue. The slight delay in picking them up was because Kristin had just rescued two other dogs, and she needed to ensure they were fully vaccinated before exposing them to new arrivals. She explained that just a few weeks earlier, a pack of Chihuahuas rescued from the very same location were all infected with deadly parvovirus.

Kristin stressed how important it is to act responsibly to protect the health of all rescue dogs. But she also shared the heartbreaking reality. Houston has thousands of strays still waiting, and large dogs often spend months — even years — hoping for rescue.

“Houston needs a lot of help,” she wrote. “Some dogs have been waiting months, even years. We would love more help.”

Kristin provided an update a few days later. “The two scruffs have been named Wiggles and Giggles. Both have started meds for their skin, started vaccinations, deworming and had a nice little spa day.”
