Pit Bull Who Was Once An Orphan Has Fostered 400 Puppies
River was just four weeks old when he was found on the side of the road in a bag with his sister.
Melissa, from New England Puppy Rescue, took him in, making River the rescue’s first orphaned puppy. Early on, Melissa could see River wanted to help with the puppies.
On New England Puppy Rescue’s Instagram, she wrote, “As an orphan himself, River knew what it was like to be abandoned at only 4 weeks old. But instead of just surviving, he thrived—and he made it his mission to help others do the same. He became our dedicated orphan puppy raiser, teaching young puppies the social skills, confidence, and boundaries they’d typically learn from their mom. His impact has been immeasurable in our Orphan Puppy Program dedicated for orphaned puppies 6 weeks and under.”
In his twelve years, River has fostered over 400 puppies!

River teaches the pups so much more than humans could. They quickly learn he’s not a mom, but he is a parent.
River is now helping teach Ruthie how to raise orphan litters so she can follow in River’s footsteps “with her own kind heart and gentle touch.
