Old Dog Left Outside And Forgotten Is Unrecognizable A Year Later
When Sidewalk Specials came for Spencer, the dog had all but given up. He lived outside his family’s home, tucked away in a corner by the stairs, curled up in the dirt.
His owners hadn’t given him the medicine they’d been provided, prompting Rachael, the founder of the dog rescue, to confront them and tell them that wasn’t good enough and that he needed a safe new home. She asked, “Guys, do you want this dog? Do you actually love this dog?” That sparked a discussion, and ultimately, the family surrendered Spencer to Sidewalk Specials.
“Everyone agreed this dog deserved a better life,” Rachael said. “And then all we had to do was make sure he got it.”
Spencer was so withdrawn that when Rachael reached out to him, he retreated back to his corner — the only home he had ever known.
Spencer was suffering from exposure, tick bite fever, mange and poor teeth. But thanks to supporters he got the medical care he needed. He also found a loving home with a mom who has several senior dogs.
A year later, Spencer is thriving. He’s energetic, healthy, and loves demanding pets and cuddles from his mom.”
Sidewalk Specials always tries to help the families and lift up the care of dogs before resorting to removing the dog. There is widespread poverty in the South African community where Spencer lived.
Sidewalk Specials offers vaccinations, spay and neutering programs, medications, food supplies and more to help impoverished dogs. If you would like to support them, visit their website.
