Family Thought Their Dog Was Dead for 4 Years—Then They Got an Unbelievable Call
Everyone in the Sagarra family thought Sugar, a Maltipoo, had died four years ago. But recently, they received a call from a local animal shelter that shocked them all—Sugar was with them.
In 2021, Sugar escaped from home and disappeared. The devastated family launched a search and offered a $1,000 reward. No one called to say they had found her, but one man claimed he had seen Sugar get killed. “He said that he witnessed her get run over by a car going about 70 to 80 miles an hour,” Sagarra told WPLG Local 10. Sagarra now believes Sugar was stolen.

Hearing that Sugar was alive shocked Sagarra, but she immediately went to get her dog, and the two were tearfully reunited. Watch their reunion below:
Sadly, the years have not been kind to Sugar. She is underweight and terminally ill. Sagarra revealed that Sugar has stage 4 heart disease, stage 4 kidney disease, and a host of other ailments, which means that the family likely won’t have much time left with her.

Despite the heartbreaking news, Sagarra is determined to make the time Sugar has left—whether weeks or months—as comfortable and loving as possible.

“I’m just very happy and soaking up every moment with Sugar because this is like a resurrection I would have never imagined,” she said, adding, “She’s back where she belongs and I’m happy that at least the remainder of her days she’ll be with her family.”
Pupdate: Sugar has passed over Rainbow Bridge.
