Chained For Years, Sweet Disabled Dog Starts A New Life
An elderly, disabled dog who spent most of her life chained up is finally getting the new beginning she deserves.
Kate, who runs Pips Paws, a rescue in Thailand, has dedicated herself to helping street dogs through grooming, care, and charity. Last May, she learned about Annabelle. The dog has a “neurological condition that causes her coordination to be very difficult, along with many other other problems.” [Editor’s note: Annabelle may have cerebellar hypoplasia (CH), which affects gait and coordination but does not cause pain.]
A kind local woman had been bringing Annabelle food to support her and the elderly woman who cared for her. Though Annabelle’s owner loved her, she was struggling, raising five grandchildren on her own while living in poverty.
Kate and her partner promised to help Annabelle. “It’s taken 9 months, and a lot of ups and downs,” Kate wrote on Pips Paws on Instagram. “We’ve taught her to walk, eat, taken her on many new adventures and we’ve loved her so much more and more every single day.”

At first, Kate couldn’t take Annabelle home due to her living situation. Instead, she would take Annabelle on walks to the beach. She wrote, “Putting her back on that chain everyday has been so difficult, but knowing her walk was the highlight of her day kept us going no matter what, and she started to become the highlight of ours too.”
Finally, the day came when Kate could bring Annabelle home. On her first day, Annabelle slept all day. At first, she seemed unsure if she would be returning to life on a chain. But by day four, she started playing with toys realizing she was finally home for good.
Now, Annabelle is thriving in her new life, surrounded by love and care.
Here is a highlight reel of the outreach Pips Paws does to help the community.
