Dog Missing For Days Found Buried Underground In Rabbit Hole

When Krakka disappeared during a walk, her family feared the worst. The four-year-old Parson Russell Terrier vanished without a trace after going missing near Shiptonthorpe, East Yorkshire. She’d always come back before, so when she didn’t, her owner, Glynis Elgey, knew something had to be wrong.

For nearly two days, family, friends, and volunteers searched everywhere. A drone team from Drone SAR for Lost Dogs UK even scoured nearby farmland, but there was no sign of her.

Then, while checking an area overgrown with nettles and rabbit holes, someone heard the faintest whimper. It was Krakka.

She had crawled deep into a rabbit warren and become trapped about three feet underground. Thick tree roots had pinned her body in place, leaving only the tip of her nose and a tiny paw visible once rescuers widened the opening.

Volunteer Steve Priestman, ground searcher Jennifer Zarek, Krakka’s owners David Hudson and Glynis Elgey, and others immediately began digging by hand. After around 20 to 25 tense minutes, they finally freed the exhausted little terrier.

“I was so excited when we found her and she was alive,” Glynis said. “The first thing she did when we got her out was give me a kiss.”

Krakka was taken straight to the veterinarian, where she was treated for dehydration, an eye infection, and an injured dew claw. Thankfully, she was expected to make a full recovery. And in true terrier fashion? Not long after her rescue, Krakka was already trying to investigate another rabbit hole.

Some dogs just never learn—but thankfully, thanks to the determination of her family and an incredible team of volunteers, this curious little explorer got a second chance.
