Rescuers Expect 3 Dogs at Abandoned Home, Find 12 Instead

“Twelve lives just got a lot better.” That’s what Kristin Erwin with StreetHearts Project said after she and fellow rescuers went to an abandoned home to pick up three friendly dogs—and ended up with twelve. One of the dogs had just given birth.

For three weeks, a kind mail carrier had been leaving food and water for the dogs living on the vacant property. They appeared to have been abandoned, and sadly, the Texas’ Liberty County neighborhood where they were found has no animal shelter. To make matters worse, every rescue in the area was already full.

Kristin wrote, “Yesterday, we drove out there to see how we could help. Of course when we got there, only the two males appeared and the pregnant female was nowhere to be found. We took the boys home thinking the female was likely just wandering around.”

We went out for 3 dogs and came back with 12! Everyone will be getting fully vetted and spayed/neutered. For anyone that would like donate or select something off ur Amazon Wishlist, we would be so appreciative!! We already know the males are Heartworm positive and will need treatment after their neuters. The two male dogs eagerly approached the rescuers taking treats and following them to their car. When they returned to the property that night they “found mama under the house along with her 9 newborn puppies.”

The mother was protective and wouldn’t let rescuers near, so they set out a cage trap and were able to catch her quickly. That allowed them to safely reach the tiny puppies and gently pull them out one by one.

All twelve dogs are now in foster care, though the two males will require heartworm treatment.

Thanks to a mail carrier’s kindness and the rescuers’ opening their hearts and homes these abandoned dogs have a real chance at a brighter future.
