Bonded Wooly Huskies Lose Their Owner — Now a YouTuber Is Helping Keep Them Together

Jess with Gone to the Snow Dogs is a well-known for her sweet videos of her huskies and for her amazing dog treat recipes. The social media influencer is lesser known for he rescue work, but she often transports homeless dogs to help get them to rescues and foster homes. Recently, 19 dogs were left homeless after their owner died. There was a big mobilization effort by the rescue community but the last two dogs didn’t find a rescue to sponsor them so Jess stepped forward to help.

She wrote on her YouTube channel:

“In one of our most important videos yet, we’re taking you on an urgent transport mission to save the lives of two beautiful woolly Siberian Huskies. After their owner tragically passed away, these dogs were left homeless as part of a massive effort to re-home 19 dogs. We stepped in to transport this bonded pair to a temporary safe space, but their journey is far from over.”

The bonded pair are “wooly Siberian Huskies.” Jess explains that wooly huskies are often bred by backyard breeders to achieve their unique look which is the result of a genetic mutation. They have longer, thicker coats that are not part of the official breed standard. “While beautiful, it requires significant grooming to prevent matting,” writes Jess of the thicker coats. The longer coat also make the dogs less suited for extreme climates, as it traps moisture and snow. “If you want a wooly husky, please follow the ‘Adopt, Don’t Shop’ mantra and find one through rescue,” Jess advises.

Malachi is an 8-10 years old “fluffy wooly boy with a gentle and sweet soul.” From what Jess learned of him, he was a sire to many puppies at a wooly breeder in Michigan and then “he ended up at a different home, tossed away after being used over and over and over.”

The female – for whom they couldn’t find a name so are calling her Raven – is 6 to 8 years old and has “unique and adorable ‘party eye’ (one eye with both blue and brown).”

Jess is raising money on GoFundMe for vet care (vetting and spaying and neutering) for the two dogs and has taken them to a dear friend of hers with the hope that the dogs can find a rescue or help in adopting them out.

She writes, “These sweet dogs are NOT currently sponsored by a rescue or shelter, which means they urgently need our help to fund their vet care, including getting spayed and neutered, so they can find a forever home together.”

“Though they are friendly, loving, and ride well in the car, they desperately need baths, grooming for their matted fur, and basic training,” she continues. “They are ready to give a lifetime of love to the right family.”
