Terrified Shelter Dog Gets a Second Chance With Foster Who Couldn’t Forget Him
Slim Jim was found wandering the streets of North Carolina and picked up by animal control. When the large Pit Bull arrived at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Shelter, he was terrified—shaking in his kennel and clearly in pain from a damaged eye.
Leslie Cloer, a foster with the shelter, couldn’t stop thinking about him. Something about his fear and gentle presence struck her. She decided to take him home for the day to give him a quiet place to decompress and feel safe.

Leslie knew Slim Jim was afraid of humans, so she gave him plenty of space and time to adjust. That evening, she learned that Forgotten Now Family Rescue had stepped in to take him under their care. They picked him up shortly after.
But Slim Jim had left a mark on Leslie’s heart. A few days later, she couldn’t stop wondering how he was doing and called the rescue to check in. That’s when she learned his injured eye had to be removed and he wasn’t doing well in medical boarding.
Without hesitation, Leslie offered to foster him again, and the rescue gladly agreed.
Now back in her care, Slim Jim is healing both physically and emotionally. Leslie admits she’s grown very attached to the big, gentle giant. While she knows it will be hard to say goodbye, she also knows she’ll be overjoyed when the right forever home comes along.
Slim Jim is available for adoption through Forgotten Now Family Rescue.
