After a Great Escape Gone Wrong, This Bernese Mountain Dog Gets the Sweetest Rescue
A Bernese Mountain Dog in an adventurous mood got himself into trouble after escaping from his yard and ending up on the large rocks at the shore of Chinese Reconciliation Park in Tacoma, Washington.
The dog barked for help and caught the attention of Good Samaritans, who called the Tacoma Police Department for help.

One of the responding officers captured bodycam footage of the canine rescue. He gently called out to the despondent-looking dog, “What happened?”

The dog wore the saddest expression—he knew he was in trouble—but he was clearly happy to see the officers and snuggled toward them when he realized they were there to help. But he refused to budge. Here’s video footage of the rescue.
The Tacoma Police Department humorously recapped the rescue from the dog’s point of view and shared the happy news that he was reunited with his family. TPD wrote on Facebook:
“Hi. I’m a Bernese Mountain Dog. I made some… choices last week. One minute I was sniffin’ around the yard, next thing I know—I’m on some cold, wet rocks at Chinese Reconciliation Park wondering how life got so ruff.
I barked for help (politely, of course), and before I knew it, these amazing humans in uniforms showed up. They told me everything was gonna be okay and helped me up off the rocks like true heroes. 10/10 service. Would recommend. They took me to the Humane Society, where—guess what—I found my humans again! Apparently, I had a bit of a ‘great escape’ moment. Whoops.
Thanks, Tacoma Police. You saved my tail. Literally.”
The team of officers brought out a carrying bag to lift the stranded dog to safety. While carrying him to the police vehicle, one officer can be heard saying, “This is a first. I’ve had people in the water…” Now he can officially add “rescuing mischievous dogs” to his list of on-the-job experiences.
