Dog Takes Big Steps Toward Healing As Authorities Continue Search For Abuser
Last month, a small injured dog was found by Good Samaritans in Schenectady, New York. She was underweight, with severe wounds to her face and ears with one ear appearing to have been intentionally cut off and she had fractured teeth.

Schenectady Police Department Animal Control quickly responded and brought the brave little dog to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society. Staff lovingly named her Lavender, and she is now receiving the medical care, safety, and compassion she desperately needed.

Lavender’s story immediately touched countless hearts. Throughout the week, Schenectady Police, Animal Control, and the Humane Law Enforcement team were overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from the community and organizations across New York State. From donations and fundraisers to heartfelt words of encouragement, the love for Lavender has been extraordinary.

This past week, the officers and rescuers who first helped save Lavender’s life visited her again. “Lavender greeted them with tail wags and trust—a quiet reminder of her strength and resilience,” Mohawk Hudson Humane Society wrote on Facebook.

Thanks to their quick actions, and the generosity of so many supporters, Lavender is healing.
Lavender’s journey is a reminder that even after unimaginable cruelty, hope and second chances are there.
Although an arrest has been made in connection with her abandonment, those responsible for her injuries is ongoing In an effort to help bring full justice for Lavender, Partners in Animal Welfare (PAW), Animal Nation, a private donor, and the New York State Humane Association have offered a combined $7,000 reward for information leading to further arrests and convictions.
