Golden Retriever’s Wish To Meet A Whale Comes True
A dog’s long-held wish to meet a whale finally came true when a young, curious humpback was drawn over by her barks.
Macy, an 11-year-old Golden Retriever, spotted the baby humpback whale while out on her mom’s boat off the coast of Lahaina, Hawaii.
Chrissy Lovitt, the boat captain and owner of the whale-watching business Maui Ocean Adventures, is rebuilding her business after losing three boats in the 2023 Lahaina wildfire.
She shared the video of Macy’s whale encounter on Instagram, writing, “After years and years of trying to bark whales over to see her, she finally caught the attention of a juvenile male whale. Macy got to tell this young male whale that she’s their biggest fan.”
The whale “flattered and decided to hang out with her for a little bit,” much to Macy’s delight.
Lovitt said Macy is “obsessed” with whales, but despite being part of the crew on the whale-watching boat, she had never come face-to-face with one before.
She added, “Macy’s love for the ocean is so pure, we named our new boat at Maui Ocean Adventures after her.
