Rescuer Gains Trust Of Chained Hunting Dogs

When Theoklitos Proestakis (aka Takis) spotted two dogs chained in a dirty yard he convinced their owner to relinquish them so that he could give them a better life at his dog shelter in Crete.

Upon entering the yard to rescue the dogs, Takis is greeted by their loud barking. One of the dogs standing on her crate snarled and tucked her tail between her legs in fear. But with a gentle hand, Takis quickly wins her over.

The moment the dog is unchained she can barely contain her happiness and pulls Takis away from her home as quickly as he will follow. As they leave, the other dog began crying, upset about being left behind. But Takis returns to get her and soon they are on their way to a better life.

The two dogs make a remarkable shift from aggressive to joyful as soon as they are free. Once at Takis Shelter the two dogs run excitedly around and hug the volunteers, relieved to be freed from their chains.

Takis notes, “They are so happy! They are so excited.” He observes that the dogs don’t know how to run yet, having been constrained by chains for so long. But now they will get the exercise and care they need to become healthy dogs once again.
