Obese Elderly Shelter Dog Who Could Barely Walk Gets A Second Chance

When Amber, a vet tech in Arizona, learned about Pierogi, she knew she had to help. The obese senior dog weighed 110 pounds and struggled to walk. Amber also knew that a shelter was not the ideal place for her to lose weight.

When she arrived to pick Pierogi up, she realized the dog was a lot bigger than she looked in her pictures and she needed to lose half her weight!

Thankfully, Pierogi doesn’t have any underlying health issues aside from some skin problems and entropion. Although Amber doesn’t know her foster dog’s full story, she suspects Pierogi was overfed out of love.

Amber describes Pierogi as incredibly charming, always wagging her tail when meeting animals and people. Being a “baked potato on legs,” Pierogi gets plenty of attention—which she loves!

Pierogi gets plenty of that attention at the vet office where she goes with Amber. Hanging out there means making new friends like this cute little kitten.

Desert Dog Project in Arizona helped with Pierogi’s rescue as did Maricopa County Animal Care & Control. They recently provided an update on Pierogi too.

With everyone rooting for her, there’s no doubt that Pierogi will find her forever home once she completes her weight-loss journey.
