Woman Discovers Shocking Scene at Farm, Rescues Corgi Mom and Her Puppies
Brooke Whipple, of “Girl In The Woods,” regularly shares videos on her channel about living off the grid and embracing the great outdoors. Recently, however, she embarked on a very different kind of adventure — rescuing four Corgis from a puppy mill.
Brooke explains that she was looking for a companion for her Corgi, Moose, after the passing of her other dog. She was told there were Corgi puppies available at a nearby farm, but when she arrived, she was shocked by what she witnessed. She shared a video about why she was prompted to take action.
She wrote further as to what happened and prompted the rescue:
“After our beloved Maysie Daisy passed last February, I wanted to find Moose a playmate. I got a lead on some corgi puppies at an Amish farm and went to look at them. He brought them out in a wheel barrow along with their mother in a wire cage with no bottom. She was shaking uncontrollably and wouldn’t make eye contact.
She lived in a box behind a steel link fence in a horse stall in the barn. No fresh air, no exercise, no light. No life. At only 1.5 years old, she had a long miserable life in front of her. She was severely undernourished while still nursing her puppies, and also bleeding from the vagina and needed vet care. The puppies and her had worms and fleas. They were hungry and in need of socialization and especially love.
I left the farm disturbed and couldn’t sleep that night. The next day, I returned to make an offer on the mom and puppies. I knew if I could save her I would need to take the puppies too. They were too young to be separated. Money talks. These aren’t his pets, just money. I sincerely hope to make a small difference, but I know it’s like sweeping a dirt floor. But we can all do our part DON’T SUPPORT PUPPY MILLS.”
After bringing the Corgi family home, there was some initial chaos, but Moose immediately welcomed his new friends.
For Brooke, rescuing the mother dog, whom she’s named Joy, and her three puppies has been challenging but incredibly rewarding. Moose has bonded with Joy and has been helping her build confidence and learn how to be a dog. Brooke has shared their progress over the past five weeks in a follow-up video, including the heartwarming moment Moose and Joy played together for the first time.
The puppies have now reached the age where they’re ready for forever homes. Brooke has one puppy for adoption and plans to keep Joy and one of the pups herself. She noted that Joy is still dealing with health issues related to giving birth, which are being treated by a veterinarian. Joy will also need ongoing help overcoming her trauma and adjusting to life as a beloved pet, something Moose is already helping her with.
In the meantime, Brooke says it’s “a party” in the house with the energetic puppies. “We all go to bed tired… this has been crazy.” But she adds that it’s all been worth it to make a difference in their lives — especially Joy’s.

She was the best adventure dog- except she wouldn’t stay in a canoe and would bark all night if you let her LOL…She was a good ol girl and I will always treasure the time I got to spend with her.
