Watch: Runner Spots Shivering Dachshund in the Rain and Helps Get Her Home

A lost dog is back home with her family thanks to a jogger out for a run on a rainy day. Latchy, an endurance athlete in the United Kingdom, was 16 miles into a trail run when he spotted a tiny dog huddled against a fence by the side of the road.

The frightened Dachshund was wet and shivering as he approached her. When he picked her up, Latchy noticed she had a collar on but no tag. He decided to trek back to town to a vet to see if she had a microchip. But along the way, he came across a farmer who happened to know that someone was looking for a missing dog.

The man called his “mate,” who called his friend, who called another friend and eventually, they reached the dog’s owner.

It turned out the dog’s name was Mabel, and her family had been searching all day for her. Latchy met up with her dad on the way to town, and he later confirmed that Mabel made it home safely. Mabel’s mom also commented on Latchy’s YouTube channel with an update, writing:

Mabel’s mom also commented on Latchy’s Youtube channel with an update on Mabel, writing: “My husband walked 15 miles looking for her. She was spooked by another runner who didn’t stop and she ran off. My husband knew some of the farmers in the area so had rang around. She was not hurt just exhausted and had lots of love when she came home thanks so much again for being so kind.

The family added that Mabel is microchipped and well looked after.

Latchy noted it’s a “good ending to the story.” He may not have been expecting this on his run, but he made one family very happy. Many viewers feel the same.

One person wrote: “Absolutely a good ending. Thank goodness her parents put the word out and both you and the farmer where in the right place at the right time.”

Another commented, “Thank you for saving that little dog and finding her family!”
