Sneaky German Shorthaired Pointer Caught Using Kitchen Window as His Personal Dog Door
Anyone who’s raised a German Shorthaired Pointer knows how agile and sneaky they can be – as Ranger’s mom recently discovered. It turns out that if Emma Horne’s dog finds the door closed when he wants in, he’ll simply take matters into his own paws…and use the kitchen window instead.
The six-year-old dog, who lives in Fairhope, Alabama, had been let out into the backyard to do his business. But just moments later, he suddenly reappeared inside the house. Perplexed, Horne looked around and noticed the open kitchen window—immediately suspecting that Ranger had snuck back in.
“He was sent out to potty and left the kitchen, and suddenly he was back inside,” Horne told USA Today. “So, I put him back out and grabbed my camera, having a feeling was he was doing.”
And Horne was right. Ranger expertly crawled through the narrow window and onto the kitchen counter, careful not to disturb a thing. It’s only when his mom calls out “Get down!” that he realizes he’s been caught red-pawed.
Viewers couldn’t help but smile at Ranger’s antics.
One person commented, “Well… he ‘pointed’ out the weak spot in your security system.”
Another noted, “This breed is nothing but chaos. And I love every ounce.”
Horne isn’t sure why Ranger decided to sneak in that way—he usually just lets them know when he’s ready to come back inside. But she doesn’t think he’ll get the chance to pull this trick again, since the window is now usually kept shut. Apparently, when it comes to getting what they want, some impatient dogs are more resourceful at solving problems than we would ever expect.
