Poodles Dumped on Street Experience Tragedy and Healing

When Audray Luck with Luck’s Rescue got a call about two poodles who had been abandoned in a well known dumping area for pets in Murphy Hollow Spring, Georgia, she prayed she wasn’t too late to help them. When she arrived at what she calls “the biggest dog-dumping spot in our community” she spotted the two dogs lying right in the middle of the road.

The black and yellow poodles seemed unaware of the danger they were in—“they had no street smarts,” Audray noted—and were clearly confused and scared. Audray and her rescue partner tried to lure the dogs off the road with food and gentle coaxing, but the frightened pair ran away every time they got close. The effort went on for more than three hours as the light faded and the dogs grew increasingly agitated. Heartbroken, they decided to return in the morning, hoping the dogs would stay safe through the night.

Tragically, when they returned the next day, the black poodle had been struck and killed. The yellow poodle had stayed by her side. “Her sister didn’t leave her and was waiting there by her, which was heartbreaking to see,” Audray said. Determined to save the surviving dog, Audray tried again, and after about an hour, she finally succeeded in safely trapping her.

The poodle, now named Princess Anastasia, was taken to a vet and placed in foster care. It didn’t take long for her to find a forever home. Though it’s heartbreaking that her sister didn’t get the same chance, Audray and her team take comfort in knowing that Princess Anastasia’s future will be filled with love and happiness.
