Pomeranian Left in Backpack Outside Soccer Centre is Lucky to Be Alive
A small dog abandoned in a pet backpack in freezing winter weather is lucky to be alive after being found by a Good Samaritan.
A 7-year-old male Pomeranian named Coco was discovered outside a soccer club in an industrial area of Calgary, Alberta. He was starving, dehydrated, and in extremely poor condition. Inside the backpack was a note listing the dog’s name, breed, and age.

Coco was rushed into medical care just in time. Calgary Humane Society Animal Protection says he has spent the past week in intensive care as staff work to stabilize him.
Since then, Coco has been shaved down and is beginning to show signs of improvement. Caregivers say he’s slowly gaining strength and has even started playing, though they remain cautiously optimistic as his recovery continues.
In the meantime, Calgary Humane Society is investigating the abandonment and working to identify whoever left him behind.

“On the spectrum of abandonments, this one is egregious given the poor physical condition and acute medical needs of this dog,” said Brad Nichols, Director of Enforcement. “We have more information about this dog than is typical, so I am confident that someone out there knows this dog and where and to whom he belongs.”

Coco is not yet available for foster or adoption, but everyone is hopeful that he will continue to grow stronger — and eventually get the safe, loving home he deserves.
The humane society is asking anyone with information to come forward and contact them.
