Pit Bull Found Begging For Help Outside Dollar Store Gets A Beautiful Second Chance
A starving mama dog who appeared in front of a Dollar General store pleading for help is a different dog a year after her rescue. Shoppers at the store in Jetersville, Virginia, noticed the Pit Bull quietly sitting outside, looking in with pleading eyes. Good Samaritans set out food and water for her before calling Amelia County Animal Shelter (ACAS) for help.
The staff at ACAS arrived and immediately noticed she was nursing, so they searched the area around the store until they found her litter of very young puppies yelping for food. They named the dog Izzy and brought her and her babies to the shelter. The following day, they took the little family for a vet visit.
“Mom and the babies went to the vet today and got checked out, pedicures and some meds to get all of them right on track,” ACAS wrote on Facebook. “Everyone is doing good and eating well.”
ACAS shared a video of the pups, writing, “Full milk belly from nursing, meds, and now a mid-morning breakfast, these squirts are going to be in a food coma and make cleaning fun in a little while.”
Meanwhile, Izzy quickly ingratiated herself with the staff. “[Mama], aka Izzy, is such a love bug,” ACAS shared.
They made sure she got some well-earned breaks from nursing.
“Izzy [is] enjoying some time [away] from babies and [in] fresh air,” they added in a Facebook update. “She is so gentle taking treats.”
It didn’t take long for the shelter to find homes for the puppies—and for Izzy, too. Izzy found a family a month after he rescue. They recently shared a photo of her one year after her rescue, and it’s hard to recognize her. She’s filled out, healthy, and clearly thriving with her new canine siblings. ACAS wrote, “She is in such a better place with friends and the Loving she deserves. Look at the House hippo!!!!!!”
From the day she gazed through that store window hoping for help, Izzy’s journey has come full circle—now she looks out with eyes full of love and a life she could have only dreamed of.
