Video: Extremely Nervous Foster Dog Can Hardly Believe She’s Allowed on Dog Bed

A foster dog had a “big moment” recently when she realized she could use a dog bed. The sweet video, shared by her foster parents on TikTok, shows Meadow sniffing around the dog beds. Each time, she decides instead to lie down in front of them on the carpet. But then, she takes a tentative step onto one and lays down. As soon as she does, her tail wags—as if she’s realizing she can be comfy and use the bed. The Fat Dog’s (@thefatdog) caption reads, “Am I allowed to be this happy?”

When Meadow tries the bed again later, she wags her tail once more. The video has since gone viral, racking up millions of views as people’s hearts melted at the fearful dog’s courage.

Meadow’s foster family shares that she was raised on the streets, never knowing the safety and love of a home. She was practically feral, and when she first arrived at The Fat Dog’s home, all she wanted to do was hide in the corner. She was terrified of going outside and didn’t go to the bathroom for three days. After a rough first 24 hours, Meadow’s healing has begun—although, her family confesses, she is slow to come out of her shell.

Meadow was so nervous to ask for her first pets that she looked like she was about to go to the bathroom on the carpet. But she ever so slowly “scooched” over for pets. Recognizing what was happening, The Fat Dog wrote, “I immediately put down the phone and gave Meadow my undivided attention.”

Meadow is also learning how to play. She watches her foster canine brother and dad play together, picking up cues that it’s safe and fun.

“Fostering is tough but we gotta remain strong so we can continue to help others get the same opportunity Meadow does,” The Fat Dog said. We can see that Meadow is in loving hands. Her foster family is dedicated to Meadow’s recovery, including helping her through the stressful heartworm treatment she now needs (she tested positive).
