Man Rescues German Shepherd Lurking in the Woods and Reunites Him with Family 300 Miles Away

Jim Phillips loves stories where dogs return home and shared one of his very own with us here at DogHeirs. The dog showed up at his farm one day and Jim explained what happened next:

“We had a German Shepard hanging around our farm for several days, staying in the woods but not wanting to approach. While having some work done on our porch, he came up to talk with the workers.

“We had been leaving food at the tree line. We provided a make shift bed at the front door and provided water and food for several more days. He had been fixed and we figured he was chipped.”

Jim’s and his family’s perseverance paid off and they were finally able to get a hold of the German Shepherd.

“On Friday our daughter took him to the vet. Yep, a chip. The chip company was reluctant to provide the information to the vet because the account was closed???? They finally gave in [and gave] our vet the info.”

They were surprised to learn the dog – whose name is Murphy – lived very far away.

“The dog’s family live about 300 miles away,” said Jim. “Not sure exactly how the dog got here. The family was VERY happy to know their Murphy had been found. The family was going to have their dad, who lives in a nearby town, pick up Murphy.

“I feel Murphy was visiting with his grand parents and got loose. We are glad he is home but sad he is not with us. Murphy is well mannered and gets along with all.”

The photo below is of what Jim calls “The Herd” and their temporary guest, Murphy.

Jim explained: “Left to Right: 2 black ones my daughter’s, Dark brown and tan my son’s. The white one our English Setter. As you can see Murphy would fit right in. Right now they ALL are at our house! (This was before Murphy got taken home.) :-)”
