This dog guardian provides an instructional video for how to clean a dog’s ears using a homemade remedy of apple cider vinegar. The man in the video demonstrates an ear cleaning technique that he says his vet taught him to help relieve his dog’s itchy ears and to help prevent ear infections.
One thing he cautions – and it’s an important thing to do – is to talk to your vet first before cleaning your dogs’ ears with anything other than a vet recommended cleaning solution, especially if your dog is prone to, or has, ear infections or allergies and to learn what will work best for your dog’s breed and age.
That said, we found the remedy interesting. He uses a mixture of apple cider and water as a cleaning agent. He uses a 50/50 solution; 50% apple cider vinegar (or less) and 50% water. As you’ll see, it does a pretty good job cleaning up the “funk” in his dog’s ears (although it looks like she’s got a bad infection, poor thing!). Also, unlike hydrogen peroxide, the vinegar solution doesn’t bubble and make a big mess.
Although it is unlikely the vinegar/water will clear up a serious ear infection, it’s probably good for ongoing maintenance and keeping a dog’s ears clean!
