Golden Retriever Picks Out a Comfort Toy from Grandma After Injury — Melts Millions of Hearts
After injuring his toe, Buzz the Golden Retriever was feeling a little blue—until Grandma came to the rescue with the perfect surprise. She brought out a lineup of stuffed animals to cheer him up, and Buzz’s heart-melting reaction has since captured the imaginations (and sympathy) of millions of viewers online.
Buzz’s mom, Grace Dower, says stuffed toys are Buzz’s favorite thing in the world, especially the soft ones. He’s incredibly gentle with them and loves carrying them around wherever he goes.
That gentleness is on full display in the now-viral video Grace shared. In it, Grandma encourages Buzz to choose between a stuffed pig, a bear, and a bunny rabbit. Buzz slowly gets up and sniffs each toy one by one before making his decision.
Grandma beams as he makes his pick, exclaiming, “Oh, he wants the bunny. Of course he wants the bunny!” She gently pets him and tells him she hopes he feels better soon. Buzz, holding up his injured paw and stuffie in his mouth, looks up at her with soft, expressive eyes—almost as if he’s saying he hopes so too.
The video quickly racked up over 2.9 million views, with viewers falling in love with the sweet moment. One person commented, “He knew it was the bunny from the start, he just had to apologize to the others first.”
Another shared a similar story: “My boy broke his toe and needed surgery. When he came home, he would raise his paw and we all gushed and loved on him. He literally raised that paw every day for the rest of his life to get extra love.” Grace replied, “Stop I’m crying, it definitely worked every time too.”
Grace later shared that Buzz was prescribed pain and anti-inflammatory medications, along with plenty of rest. A few weeks later, he was back to walking normally—and no doubt still carrying his beloved bunny everywhere he goes.
And in case the dog lovers out there thought it was a great “injustice” that Buzz only got one of the three stuffies…well, shame on you. Of course grandma wouldn’t leave Buzz in the lurch like that. A short time after getting his Bunny, a package arrived in the mail.
