Dog Rescuer Sets Up Camera To See What Is Digging In Her Trash — Finds a Puppy

Kirstin Erwin with Street Hearts Project regularly finds dogs on the rural roads in her Texas neighborhood. She usually doesn’t have the dogs showing up on her doorstep. But that’s what happened the other day when she and her husband put out some food and a camera to figure out what kind of animal was rummaging around in their garbage.

She wrote on TikTok: “We noticed something was getting into our trash at night so we put up a game camera. I fully expected to see a feral cat or raccoon making the mess. Turns out it was a little puppy coming in the night searching for food.”

“Despite having numerous foster dogs at the moment, I couldn’t let him spend another night in the woods,” Erwin continued. “We baited a dog trap and waited for him to make his rounds.”

The video she shared revealed a scared little puppy approaching the food bowl with his tail tucked firmly between his legs. Once she knew it was a dog, she brought out a trap to catch him but it malfunctioned! Then the game camera malfunctioned! But in the end, the pup was caught and now he’s safe and with exactly the right people to take care of him!

Pupdate:

Erwin updated everyone on the dog: “We named the little porch puppy, Jet. He was pretty sneaky. I never saw him in person until the day we trapped him. Jet warmed up immediately once inside our house. Our son and him quickly became buddies. He is the sweetest boy!”

“At the vet we learned Jet is actually not a puppy. He’s estimated around a year old! He just has those perfect puppy dog eyes. No microchip so we started his vetting and he received medication for his ears and skin.”
