Crying Dog Overjoyed as Florida Officer Smashes Window to Save Her From Hot Car
“I know buddy – I’m gonna get you out of there.” That’s what Sgt. Bordin, a police officer with Florida’s Bradenton Police Department, told a panicked dog left inside a hot car, desperately crying to get out.
Bordin had responded to a call about the dog locked in the vehicle while outside temperatures soared to 90°F (32°C). “The temperature inside the vehicle was significantly higher, and it appeared the dog had been left alone for quite some time,” the department noted on Facebook. With outside temperatures at 90°F, the interior of a car can reach 109°F within minutes—and after 30 minutes in direct sun, it can climb to a dangerous 124°F.
Speaking gently to calm the dog, Sgt. Bordin quickly smashed the passenger-side window. The grateful pup ran straight to him, relieved to be free. She drank nearly a liter of water before being taken to a veterinarian for a check-up, then brought to Manatee County Animal Welfare.
