Dog Left by Highway Makes Amazing Recovery From Unthinkable Neglect
A tiny dog weighing just 5.1 pounds when she was rescued has made an incredible recovery.
A tiny dog weighing only 5.1 pounds when she was rescued has made an amazing recovery. “Sasha was wandering near the highway when a truck driver spotted her,” Streethearts Project wrote. “They got the word out and thankfully she was able to be found and picked up before the unthinkable [happened].”
When Sasha was brought into foster care, rescuers quickly realized just how sick she was. She was severely underweight and unable to keep down food or water. She suffered from diarrhea, hair loss, and had a strong, unpleasant odor. Her rescuers immediately began addressing her many health issues.
Street Hearts Project shared:
“The vet discovered a serious infection in her intestines. She also had dental disease that had been neglected for some time. Sasha was at the ER for 3 days and then we helped tackled her heath issues one at a time. During her dental, 22 teeth were extracted!”

Over the following weeks, Sasha slowly began to rebound. She was placed on a special diet and medication, her painful mats were shaved away, and her personality began to shine through — her rescuers say she even started to “find her voice.”
“Today, Sasha looks like an entirely different dog,” Streethearts Project wrote. “After she fully recovered and completed her vetting, she traveled to Massachusetts, where she found a wonderful family thanks to Gal’s Best Pal.”
Now settled into her new home, Sasha is thriving. What began as a desperate rescue has become a beautiful new beginning.
