Dog Left In A Dollar Tree Parking Lot Waited Hopefully For His Owner To Return

A woman stopped at a Dollar Tree to pick up a gallon of milk and ended up changing a dog’s life forever.

Summer had spotted the dog sitting alone in the parking lot of the store in Alabama. He appeared to be looking for someone, so she asked the employees who told her someone had dropped him off that morning and simply driven away. Hours later, he was still there, faithfully waiting for the person he loved to come back.

A volunteer with an animal rescue, Summer tried to help, but the heartbroken dog was too scared to trust a stranger. She went home, but she couldn’t stop thinking about him so the next day she returned.

The parking lot was empty, and for a moment she feared the worst. Then, just down the road at the town’s gas station, she spotted him again.

Armed with nothing more than a few hot dogs and a lot of patience, she slowly earned his trust. Before long, the abandoned dog—now named Samson—was safe.

A trip to the vet revealed that, despite being a little underweight and covered in fleas, Samson was healthy. An old injury had left a mark on his nose, but it only added to his charm.

During the next few weeks in foster care, something incredible happened. The frightened dog who had been waiting in that parking lot began to smile again. He discovered that car rides were fun, hikes were exciting, and people could actually be kind.

“He rediscovered his goofy, affectionate personality and learned that people could be kind again,” Merrill Fortier, social media and marketing manager at Shultz’s Guest House, told The Dodo.

Then came the happiest surprise of all.

After arriving at Shultz’s Guest House to find his forever family, Samson was adopted in just five days.

Today, the dog who was once abandoned and left to wonder why has a loving home, a canine sister named Lucy, and a life full of adventures.
