Tripod Dog Becomes the Perfect Guide for a Foster Puppy Learning Life on Three Legs

Ruhn has never let having three legs define him. Since he was a puppy, he’s lived life at full speed—running, digging, and easily keeping up with dogs twice his size. Over the past year, he’s also helped welcome 11 foster dogs into his home, always eager to play and show them the ropes.

But everything changed when one very special foster arrived.

When Mae’s Mutts Rescue put out a call for help with a new litter, Ruhn’s mom, Brittany Ketcham, wasn’t planning to take another dog in—her home already had 12 permanent dogs. But when she heard one of the puppies was also a tripod, she couldn’t say no. That puppy was Tricycle.

From the moment they met, something clicked.

For the first time, Ruhn saw another dog moving the way he did—and his excitement was immediate. He began playing with Tricycle right away, encouraging him to move, explore, and gain confidence. As Brittany captioned the video she shared: “Ruhn said ‘momma! He looks like me! I’ll teach him don’t worry!'”

Tricycle had been struggling to adjust to life on three legs, unsure of how to get around. But Ruhn instinctively stepped into the role of teacher.

He stayed close, circling back whenever Tricycle fell behind, gently showing him how to hop, run, and even dig with just one front leg. Before long, the two formed a close bond, learning side by side and growing stronger together.

Ruhn has always welcomed every foster with open paws, but this connection was different. There was something powerful in finally having a friend who understood him without explanation.

And with Ruhn by his side, Tricycle isn’t just learning how to move—he’s learning how to live with confidence and joy.
