Senior Dog With Hip Dysplasia Gets the VIP Treatment—A Personal Elevator
Just like older humans, senior dogs with joint pain or muscle issues can struggle with stairs. For some, even a single flight can be too much, leaving them stuck on the ground floor.
Jackson, a 15-year-old Yellow Lab from South Carolina, was no exception. Jackson has hip dysplasia that makes it difficult for him to walk up and down stairs. His family couldn’t bear to leave him behind while they went upstairs, so they came up with an incredible solution: a home elevator.

A TikTok video shared by Logan Mendicino (@loganmend624) shows Jackson sitting happily in the transparent, tube-shaped elevator. The caption reads: “When you’re 15 and the best boy ever so your parents get you an elevator.”
Technically, it’s a regular elevator designed for a single person, installed during renovations to make life easier for the homeowners as they age. But in Jackson’s case, it has become his personal lift—a way for him to reach his family without the pain of climbing stairs.
Jackson can’t operate the elevator on his own, but with the help of his family, he can join them anywhere in the house pain-free.
Despite some commenters suggesting he might be scared, Logan explained in a follow-up video: “He loves it, it’s much easier than carrying him up the stairs. And for those of you that said he’s terrified, he’s not—he just jumps right in.”
Other viewers were curious to see how Jackson exits the elevator so his family shared a video of that.
While most dog parents can’t install an elevator, Jackson’s story is a beautiful reminder of the lengths people will go to care for their senior pets. From specialized lifts to creative DIY solutions, finding ways to make a dog’s golden years more comfortable is always worth it.
After all, every senior dog deserves to spend time wherever their family is—without pain, without struggle, and surrounded by love.
Postscript: Jackson crossed Rainbow Bridge a year after the videos of him taking the elevator went viral. Rest in Peace, Jackson.
