Rescuers Race to Save Shivering Dog from Abandoned House Ahead of Winter Storm
“It’s too cold.”
That’s what Donna Lochmann with Stray Rescue of St. Louis thought when she went to rescue a large pit bull living inside an abandoned house as winter temperatures dropped to single digits. With a major winter storm looming the next day, she was determined to get him out.
With her hands freezing and the dog shivering, Donna used sausages to slowly lure him closer. Unsure what to do, the frightened dog let out a whiny howl as the cold wind whipped around them.
“This poor boy has been living in this abandoned house all by himself. He went up…but then was too scared to come down!” Stray Rescue wrote. “We were only there for about 10 minutes, but we couldn’t feel our hands or fingers by the time we leashed him up. It was super windy up on that second level.”
Once inside the Jeep, the dog began to warm up, and his rescuers named him Snow Mageddon, after the winter storm approaching the area.
Back at the shelter, he quickly settled in and began catching up on much-needed rest.
“We rescued him a few hours ago and he has been sound asleep in a blanket ever since,” the rescue wrote. “He is going to be warm and safe tonight.”
For the first time in a long while, Snow Mageddon has people looking out for him and keeping him safe.
