First Blankets Signal a New Beginning For Puppy Mill Dogs
“First blankets, first comfort, first steps toward home.” National Mill Do Rescue (NMDR) has a tradition with every group of dogs they welcome to their shelter. They provide them with a blanket. The gesture marks a new beginning in more ways than one, providing the dogs with a kindness that ushers in a new beginning.
NMDR writes:
“Last night, we welcomed a new group of dogs into the NMDR family—and for many of them, this was the first soft blanket they’ve ever had…These quiet, touching moments may seem small… but they mean everything to a dog who’s only ever known cold, hard spaces.”
The dogs – big and small – are tentative when they first see the soft fleece blankets but they will embrace them soon enough.
“A blanket is more than warmth—it’s safety,” NMDR continues. “It’s the beginning of healing. It’s the first sign that their life is about to change for the better.”
The animal welfare group is so glad that the dogs are now under their care:
“We’re so glad they’re here. And we can’t wait to help them find the love they’ve waited for their whole lives. Most of these dogs will be available for adoption soon—once they’re spayed/neutered and medically ready to go home.”
