Dog Hit By Car Refuses to Give Up – Now He Walks Like a Human
A dog disabled by an injury isn’t letting it slow him down. Dexter, a 10-year-old Brittany Spaniel, turns heads everywhere he goes because he walks upright like a person. And it’s not a trick. It’s something he taught himself out of necessity after being hit by a car.
One day, Dexter ran out the front door, jumped the fence, and darted into the road. He was badly injured and required multiple surgeries. He lost one front leg and had pins placed in the other. When he returned home, Dexter struggled with a wheelchair. He wanted to move faster and with more freedom.
Then one morning, after months of recovery, he stunned his mom, Kentee Pasek, by standing upright to go to the bathroom. At first, she thought it was a one-time thing but Dexter kept doing it. Soon, he was walking, hopping, and even running on two legs!
His story of perseverance spread across social media during the COVID pandemic, inspiring thousands with his resilience and optimism. Over the past few years, he’s touched hearts all over the world, so much so that his family has written a children’s book, Dexter: The Stand Up Dog. Pasek hopes the book reminds people to get out of their own heads and keep going, no matter the obstacle.
“We all have something going wrong or difficult to get through,” she says. “And Dexter, through all of this, has just smiled.”
