Mauled Foster Puppy Gets the Best News — She Can Finally Play Again
Meet Bunny — a foster pup who desperately needed medical care after being savagely bitten by another dog. Enter Caitie Evers. Caitie has saved over 700 dogs since founding her nonprofit, Caitie’s Foster Fam, in 2021, and she’s personally fostered more than 300 dogs.
Caitie received a call from a vet hospital asking if she could rescue Bunny.
“This tiny 6-week-old puppy was attacked by another dog and surrendered to a vet hospital who reached out to us to take her into the rescue. We said yes and took over her care,” said Caitie.
Caitie immediately arranged for Bunny to get x-rays done and her wounds to get checked over. She wrote, “Bunny says don’t judge her new haircut: her head had to be shaved to check all the wounds. Luckily, her eyes and ears are okay. She had x-rays done that showed some hairlines fractures on her jaw. Due to the extent of injuries, we will be watching her injuries closely and have a referral to a specialist to make sure we aren’t missing anything and best options on surgery. She is still a playful, silly, rowdy pup. Considering how scary her injuries looked, we are thankful for her good prognosis.”
Bunny is in good hands with Caitie’s Foster Fam. Caitie has over a decade of experience caring for medical foster dogs.
“I originally started fostering back in college when people would just reach out to me about finding dogs,” Caitie told Reshareworthy.com. “When I moved to Houston, I reached out to local rescues to foster and have been doing so ever since.”
Her rescue work gained wider attention thanks to a viral story. To help the puppies of Lily Mae, a Golden Retriever she was fostering, get adopted, Caitie came up with the idea of a doggie maternity photo shoot.
In Bunny’s most recent update, she visited a neurologist and received great news — Bunny “is healing great.” She also doesn’t need any further surgeries or hospital stays! And Bunny is thrilled she no longer needs the cone of shame.
Caitie added, “She finally gets to start being a puppy and run and play like she’s been dying to. I can’t wait to see her really thrive and enjoy puppyhood!”
