When Sydney Hoffman moved in to her new home in Canada she didn’t think it would come with a puppy. But that’s exactly what happened when a stray, skinny puppy showed up on her surveillance cameras.
Sydney first thought Dobby was a coyote as there are plenty of the wild animals in the area. She immediately put out food for the puppy but as it was close to nightfall and the puppy was very skittish, Sydney was unable to catch her. But Dobby reappeared the next morning on Sydney’s doorstep.
Sydney immediately set about to catch her. She spent the second day trying to win the puppy’s trust. Every 20 minutes or so the puppy would circle around her house, so Sydney thought the puppy was getting more comfortable. But every time she tried to approach Dobby, the puppy ran away.
She almost caught her on that second day but again night fell. Sydney was worried sick for the dog’s safety, especially after hearing the coyotes howling that night.
On the third day, Dobby appeared again, much to Sydney’s relief. Sydney was determined to catch her, knowing the puppy’s life was in danger. She couldn’t have been more right because just seconds after going outside to coax Dobby to her, a large coyote ran out of the woods and tried to snatch Dobby. Thank goodness Sydney was there because she managed to scare the coyote off! Night was approaching when Sydney finally had a stroke of luck and some help from a neighbor and their dog. They managed to catch Dobby and Sydney brought Dobby inside her home to keep her safe. It was such a relief to have the dog safe inside.
Sydney did bring Dobby to a local animal rescue to see if Dobby had a family, but no one came forward to claim her. That’s when Sydney decided that Dobby belonged with her family.

Dobby has joined Sydney, her partner Shawn, and their 6-year-old French Bulldog Gary in their new home. Now, Dobby is part of the family and loving every minute of it!
In a video Sydney shared on TikTok, Dobby goes on her first outing and is literally on top of Gary!
