Sweet Dog Holds Out Her Hurt Paw to Vet After He Earns Her Trust

A dog who hurt her dew claw and had to visit the vet to have it looked at won sympathy and hearts with her sweet response. In an adorable viral video posted by the veterinarian, the Labrador Retriever is in the examining room with Dr. Hamilton, who decides to sit on the floor to make her feel more comfortable.

The dog lifts her paw for Dr. Hamilton to look at, but, it turns out it’s not the injured one. “It’s actually the other paw,” Hamilton can be heard gently telling his patient. The dog eyes him warily and it doesn’t look like she’s too interested in showing him her hurt paw. But with some gentle coaxing, Dr. Hamilton gets the dog to agree and she lifts it for him to examine.

Luckily for the Lab, her dew claw wasn’t broken or yanked out. Dr. Hamilton captioned the video: “This patient wanted to cooperate. Her dew claw got caught on something and resulted in acute lameness that appears to be getting better. The patient was not licking at the nail and the nail was not fractured. Some rest and non-steroidals and we were on our way!”

Viewers on TikTok praised Dr. Hamilton’s bedside manner. One person wrote, “Amazing vet!! The first time I saw a vet sit on the floor with my dog, I never wanted another to treat her.”

“How do we clone this man so that more furbabies can receive this level of empathetic care?” posted another user.

“You are so good at this with these precious babies,” commented one other viewer.

It’s so important that dogs trust their vet as it makes examinations go so much better and it definitely puts the dogs’ humans at ease too. It can be such a scary experience for a dog, so having a vet that helps them relax is priceless.
