A shivering skinny dog was so relieved that someone noticed him that he immediately walked over to greet them despite being barely able to walk. “He’s so skinny it hurts,” Stray Rescue of St. Louis writes on their YouTube channel. “It felt really good to get him out of the cold and wind. It’s sad that he was just waiting for someone…anyone….to be kind to him and help him.”
In the video, Donna Lochman approaches Nico, her first rescue of 2024. The young dog looks up at her with his doleful eyes and begins to walk to her and she notices that he has an injured back leg in addition to being starved. But he comes over to her and immediately leans into her to be petted.
Nico’s tail hasn’t stopped wagging since. “He’s made all of us melt with those eyes that look into your soul,” Stray Rescue of St. Louis writes. They shared a cute update on Nico once they were back at the shelter and it’s clear from what they write that Nico not only is starving for food he’s starving for attention.
“We wanted to take a picture of him all snuggly and warm with his stuffed animals for you, but if you get even remotely close to him, he becomes the wiggliest torpedo! If you open his doors, he just shoots out into your arms at lightning speed,” the rescue group writes on their Facebook page.
“This is one special boy, he just can’t get close enough to us,” they continue. “He weighs in at 32 pounds and should be double that.”
What they are hoping for now is for someone to step forward foster him/spoil him as soon as he’s medically cleared because their shelter is really full. “We’ll let everyone know when he is medically cleared and ready to continue his healing journey in a foster home where he can sprawl out across his people,” Stray Rescue of St. Louis writes. “But for now, he needs to stay with us and get healthier!”
