Mailman Finds Tiny Pittie with Swollen Head and Makes Special Delivery

When a mailman on his route in St. Louis spotted a little dog with a giant swollen cheek he decided to make a special delivery.

The mailman took her straight to an animal rescue. Or rather, they came to him for pick up. Stray Rescue of St. Louis shared photos of the sweet dog now named Parcel and shared how Parcel came to be rescued.

They wrote on their Facebook page, “Last week the kindest mailman saw this dog on his route and STOPPED! Oh! This poor dog needed emergency medical help!”

They continued, “He couldn’t leave her so he kept her safe in his van and we went to meet him and pick her up.” Parcel was wagging her tail when Donna met her and extended her hand.

“When we first saw Parcel, we thought she had a large, infected bite wound,” Stray Rescue wrote. But when vets took a closer look and drained the pus it turns out she has Sialocele, which is a ruptured salivary duct, the rescuers explained. As a result, her saliva is pooling and causing an infection. The group said it will likely need to be removed via a specialty surgery.

It’s not clear how it happened but Stray Rescue says it “could have happened after hitting her head or getting hit with something.”

But one thing is clear. They are happy she will be getting the help she needs. “She’s so petite and so sweet,” they add. “This is why it is so important we rescue, there are babies in need everywhere!”

Parcel is looking better already and look at those pretty pink nails.

But Parcel is just one of the many dogs who need fostering and adopting at Stray Rescue. In fact, the rescue says that Parcel is the last dog they rescued before they went down into a freeze-mode because they are absolutely at capacity and cannot rescue until they clear space.

“The sooner we get 20 fosters or adopters, the sooner we can be back on the streets,” they write. “These babies need us!!”
